Global Warming

This affects all of us. Listed below are some the problems currently facing our planet. We have also highlighted some things that can be done by all of us to limit the effects of global warming. There is also a link to show what we are doing at St. Joseph's for recycling and energy efficiency.

Facts

  • The glaciers are melting.The ice caps are getting smaller. Animals and plants are responding to an earlier spring.
  • Sea levels are rising and are forecast to rise by another 88cm by 2100.
  • Costs of global warming could double each year in the next ten years.

Effects

  • Rising temperatures will cause polar ice caps to melt further.
  • Even more flooding, rainstorms,droughts and famine will occur
    .

What we can do to help the environment

If you visit the Government's climate challenge website you can calculate your family's carbon foot print and find out how it can be reduced. Below are some suggestions.

Use energy saving lightbulbs


Don't leave your TV or PC on standby


Turn off the lights when you leave a room


Take a shower rather than a bath


Use a microwave when cooking small amounts of food


Turn the thermostat down by a couple of degrees for the cental heating


Only fill the kettle with the required amount of water


Only put the dishwasher on when it is full


Recycle products like paper,plastic and glass
