Film Club
Mr Rogstad has organised a Film Club at school. This part of a national network supported by the government.
Film director Beeban Kidron, the inspiration behind FILMCLUB, says that it "goes to the heart of what we need to give to our children. We need to explain the world, tell our stories, impart values, get them to judge, discuss, identify, be inclusive, be happy and sad and above all heard. FILMCLUB makes them curious about the world, it also makes them film reviewers, film buffs and in doing so increases their literacy as they write and read each other's reviews.
National award winning review by James Neeson 7M of The film ' Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
"A stone cold classic. The new version is a creative reimagining of this classic, but this is the better version. A lot of kids have seen the new version and just think "I've seen this newer version so I don't need to see the old one". More shame them as this film proves that the original is sometimes the best and that just because a reimagining has more effects, it isn't necessarily better. Gene Wilder is (was?) a great actor who plays the part like he wrote the book. Sure, this film may be old, and not so spectacular as many of the present ages top films e.g. Pirates of the Caribbean but it is still one of the best films I have ever seen and probably a lot cheaper to make too. Somehow I've managed to get this far without mentioning the sheer creativity that was needed to make this film but all the ideas in this film are startlingly original. A true classic that everyone should see, even though it is forty years old."
Monsters v Aliens Review written by Harriet Yates 7M
I found this film amazing, but off course that is just my opinion. This film highlights the possibility of monsters living on this earth. Four monsters are trapped inside a government containment program somewhere in America. These monsters are promised freedom if they free the worls of an alien probe. Before an invasion of the world they are joined by Susan, who had a bit of a shock on her wedding day. This film captures the imagination and creativity of directors Rob Letterman and Conrad Vernon perfectly. I must praise the human (or monster!) that created the human in this as it is truly amazing, following the film to the very end of hte very last line, literally! The sheer scale of the graphics in this film is very impressive and obviously extremely advanced. It impresses me that Dreamworks managed to get Reese Witherspoon, as personally, she is one of my favourite actresses, althogh that is not the case for others. I verymuch liked this film, although I might not have watched this film if it was just based on the title (although it is very clever), so you can't judge a book by its cover and most films you would think to be bad might not be if you just give it a chance. I would definetely class this film as a success in film club and I would watch it again if I had a chance. I cam imagine that this film would get very boring if you watched it over and over. This is a breakthrough in Dreamworks and this has been created into a king among films. Bravo, Dreamworks!
Back To the Future written by Ellie Hersey 8S
I like the way the film starts with an average teenager who lives a normal yet inventive lifestyle. Then suddenly he uses a time machine to get away from terrorists and is zapped intot he year 1955. He changes a lot of things and then he realises that the younger self of his mum likes him. He battles away to try to get her to like his dad otherwise he would not exist. The film is very funny. I think it captures the feeling of the normal life being turned upside down.
