International Links
In 2004 we received the British Council International School Award for the first time. Mrs Fawdry coordinates all our international links and successfully applied for our redesignation in 2007.
Mrs Fawdry and Mrs Stevens went to London on 10th October 2007 to be officially presented with our award by George Alagiah, the BBC news reader. Over 1000 schools applied for the award but only 400 were successful.

Kenya
We have curriculum links with a school in Kenya. Our Y7 pupils study Kenya as part of their geography course. Kenya is a developing country situated on the east coast of Africa.

The school is called Roynova R. Academy in the town of Migori which is 600 km west of Nairobi and 70 km from Lake Victoria, the world's largest fresh water lake.

There are 250 boys and girls in the school aged between 4-13 years and 12 teachers. The children are taught in both English and Swahili.
Our pupils in Y7 exchange letters with the pupils in Kenya.
South Africa
Last year Mr Philip Rosier, our subject leader of music, was part of a group of teachers who visited South Africa.

As a result we also have links with a school there with the pupils e-mailing each other. The school is called Waterkloof Preparatory School in Pretoria. We also have an African drum group.
European Project
We have established an international project with schools from Turkey, Germany,England and Denmark. The focus of the project, led by Mrs Conley and Mrs Storey, will be to further develop self esteem and confidence in children with special educational needs. Mrs Conley and Mrs Storey visited one of the partner schools in Denmark in November 2007.
In April 2008 staff from all the schools in the project visited St Joseph's and East Hartford School, near Cramlington. They had the opportunity to see our school as well as the beautiful Northumberland countryside and famous landmarks like the Roman Wall and Alnwick Castle. In June and September children from the partner schools came over for visits. This year several of our staff and pupils went on visits to Denmark, Germany and Turkey.

Netherlands
Mrs Miller organises a biennial trip to Amsterdam for pupils in Y7/8 to visit Anne Frank's house. The pupils have studied Anne's diary as part of a writing project. The pupils work is sent to the Anne Frank museum and put on display.

France and Belguim
Mrs Ward organises a biennial trip to north east France which includes visits to Ypres and Bruges in Belguim. The pupils have an opportunity to practise their French speaking and also learn about the First World War which was mainly fought in this area.
Every year there is a week's ski trip to the French Alps for pupils mainly in Year 8. For the past two years they have stayed in the resort of Serre Chevalier which is about three hour coach journey south east of Grenoble.
