Sport and extra curricular activities

At St.Joseph's we have a wide range of sports and other extra curricular activities.

This year we have achieved the DCSF Sportsmark Award. Sportsmark rewards exceptional delivery of the national schools' sports strategy.

Our target this year is for over 90% of our children to be actively involved in two hours of PE and sport per week.

In the PE and games lessons the children will have opportunities to take part in the follow sports: football, rugby, netball, hockey, cross country, cricket, tennis, rounders, athletics dance and gymnastics.

In addition, there are wide range of sports clubs at lunchtimes and after school for the pupils whatever their ability.

The list of clubs and their times are put up on the PE notice board in the hall and the pupils are encouraged to get involved.

We have teams representing the school in area competitions and some pupils have represented the County.

Congratulations to our U13 boys' and girls' football teams!

The boys were U13 West Tyne champions 2008-09.

Their record was: Played 6 won 5 drew 1

The girls were also West Tyne champions 2008-09

A number of our pupils took part in the County Athletics Championship held at Gateshead Stadium last summer. They were representing the Hexham Partnership.

A Northumberland Sport website  was recently launched by Steve Cram and includes useful information that will hopefully inspire the people of Northumberland to get involved in sport and active recreation.
